Ways to Keep the Exterior of Your Home Clean

Everyone knows the first impression of a home can make or break a sale, or even receiving visitors. As you already know, to keep your home in the best shape possible, you must take the time to maintain it. This goes for both inside your home and outside. In fact, exterior home maintenance can help to avoid interior issues in some cases.

    Maintain Home Exterior

Some of these items are unsightly, and they will make your home look dirty. Keeping everything at its rightful place will make your home look open, bright, spacious, and neat.

Trees, shrubs, and garden weeds, that are unkept can create eyesores. Periodically trimming tree lines, and scrubs goes along way to curb appeal. As you work on the trees and the bushes, don’t forget the flowerbeds. You can set aside one day every week or two to work on your flowerbeds. As you water the flowerbeds, pull out the weeds plus the dead flowers and plant new ones.

    Declutter Where Possible

You might not think neighbors notice things laying around your yard and it is perfectly normal to have things out of place, but they do notice! Having designed spaces to keep outdoor equipment goes a long way to the appearance of a clean and attractive home.

    Fences and Yards

Books have been written on lawn care, and it can be a daunting task. Follow these steps to promote a healthy and attractive lawn. Ensure to keep your windows cleaned, and any wood trim freshly painted. Not only does a fresh coat of paint promote the appearance of a well-kept home but will inhibit any mold growth and wood rot. For shutters, especially vinyl shutters can look brand-new by simply applying a coat of high-gloss polyurethane to them.

The same goes for fences. Small repairs can be completed with a few tools and a little knowledge.

A power washer is a great investment as it is versatile, from cleaning windows and siding to driveways, fences, decks, patios, and even your car.

    Roof & Gutters

Your roof is a vital part of your home. When you notice a leak, it can sometimes be because of expensive roof damages. By regularly maintaining your roof, you can avoid expensive repairs. You’ll want to first see if there are any missing or damaged shingles and get those repaired as soon as possible. By repairing any damaged shingles now, you can save yourself money in the long term.

When is the last time you clean your gutters? If it has been a while, you should make this a top priority for your exterior home maintenance. While you’re cleaning, it’s a good time to check your gutters for other potential problems that could lead to water damage in your home.

It shouldn’t take you more than a day to inspect the exterior of your home and clean up a few areas. However, if you discover that any repairs need to be made, it’s better to do that sooner rather than later.
